Support programs - Fundación Comunidad -

For three consecutive years, Fundación Comunidad has financed projects through a public appeal to community groups in Morelos. The following describes the financed projects throughout year.

From January to March 2004, a group of 40 architects of University of Washington worked on the design and construction of an ecologically sound kitchen and a dining room at the José María Morelos y Pavón School in Tejalpa. The University provided labour and the technical work, the community contributed volunteers, the council provided materials and COSTCO financed the kitchen equipment for the school and other construction and mangement expediture. Fundación Comunidad coordinated the project development and took charge of training and provided ongoing support to the team working on the kitchens.

The construction program continues year upon year.

With the aim of transfering abilities to strenghten local organizations, Fundación Comunidad offers the following courses and advices:

Basic administration and strategic planning: courses for micro enterprises.
Nutrition and organization: courses for nutritional programs comities.
Fundraising: courses for local community groups.
Strategic planning: courses for local community groups.

Thanks to a partnership with CANACINTRA, we have succeed in reaching various organizations and micro entreprises providing CRECE services free of charge. The micro enterprises to benefit are selected by Fundación Comunidad, the services required are, for example: viability studies, business plans, market studies,etc. Organizations currently benefitting with this program are: Grupo LID, SANUT, EPAT and Viva la Tierra.

Project in alliance with the UAEM: Diagnosis of the context of local communities in Morelos.

Training requirements: We are in process of researching the development needs of organizations in Morelos.

Kindergarden and community kitchen in Los Patios de la Estación

This project, located in one of the poor colonies of Cuernavaca, receives financing from Well-Springs Karitas Foundation, in United States. Comunidad A. C. is in charge of the resource management for breakfast, salaries and equipment, give advices, training, and supervises the work of the local promoter, who is in charge of work in the kitchen and the kindergarden.

Kitchens for school in Tejalpa

This project was developed in partnership with five primary schools. Other support organizations are the Equipo de Promotoras Ambientales de Tejalpa (Environmental Protection Team in Tejalpa) and the DIF Estatal. The intention is to equip the kitchens and help the parent’s association to organize the operation of the school kitchen. With the help of a promoter and voluntary workers, we offer training for volunteer mothers in the kitchens. In the medium term we hope to be able to establish an official education and nutricion monitoring program. This project has been supported by the Embassies of Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Tendiendo Redes (Solidifying Networks)
Program objective: To offer a space for expression and debate on various social, political and economic issues affecting Morelos, specifically aimed at the community groups.
It is an hourly feature aired once per week, Friday from 12.00 to 13.00 on 102.9 FM

Enlace Solidario( Creating Relationships )
Program objective: To open a discussion on disability issues in order to better integrate those with different capacities into all sectors of the public life. Talks on health, sharing experiencies and personal solutions to difficulties faced by the disabled, motivational talks, and useful information for the population of this sector.
It is an hourly feature aired once per week, Thursday from 12.00 to 13.00 on 102.9 FM

Alliance with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)

Fundación Comunidad, in partnership with CIDHAL A. C. and Red Puentes México, has created a project specifically aimed at promoting Corporate Social Responsibility in Morelos from the perspective of the civil society. We have organized awareness raising events and we will continue our research and plan to hold more events to sustain this campain in the future.
